Copilot doesn't break permissions - it reveals them. If a document was quietly readable by everyone, Copilot will find it and quote it. These questions are about the tidying that has to happen first.

Do you know who can access what in SharePoint and OneDrive?
Especially anything shared with 'everyone' or 'everyone except external users'.

Have broad, organisation-wide sharing links been cleaned up?
Old links from projects that finished years ago.

Do you know where sensitive documents live?
Salaries, board papers, client contracts, personal data.

Are sensitivity labels or equivalent controls in use?
Not essential, but it makes the rest much easier.

Have you dealt with duplicate and out-of-date content?
Copilot will happily cite the wrong version of a policy.

Do you know who genuinely needs a licence?
Copilot is per-user and priced accordingly.

Is there a written position on acceptable use?
What staff can put in, and what they must check before sending out.

Will people be shown how to use it well?
Unused licences are the most common Copilot outcome.
